1979 Alfa Romeo Alfetta

This truly crappy Alfetta was our 2007 24 Hours of Lemons endurance race contender. Purhased as a "complete" race car it seemed like a good deal for $500 crap can racing like Lemons. Despite their various problems as street cars they are engineered to withstand italian drivers which means they can take a lot of abuse - such as endurance racing. The car performed pretty well for the first hour, maintaining a top 3 position. However, it was not to last as the engine threw a rod after the first hour of racing. On the plus side another team running an Alfetta scavenged our oil pump to get their car running again and it finished the race. The motor has since been replaced and perhaps we'll find another event for this car in the future.

The Alfa has since been sold for $500 to a family in Poway, CA that has been autocrossing it with success. It is rumored it may make an appearance at the December, 2010 24 Hours of Lemons at Buttonwillow.
